About

Laser Hair Removal is a safe, long-term solution for unwanted hair on the face and body. Using advanced laser technology, this treatment targets and disables hair follicles at the root without damaging the surrounding skin. At Platinum Medical Spa, we use FDA-cleared devices suitable for a wide range of skin types and tones. Whether you're treating underarms, legs, bikini area, face, or backlaser hair removal offers smoother skin, fewer ingrown hairs, and long-lasting freedom from shaving and waxing.

Pre-Care
Sun Exposure

Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Recently tanned or sunburned skin may increase the risk of burns or pigmentation changes.

Hair Preparation

Shave the treatment area 12-24 hours before your appointment. Do not wax, tweeze, thread, or bleach the hair for 4-6 weeks prior.

Skin Preparation

Arrive with clean skin only. Avoid makeup, lotions, oils, deodorant, or perfume on the treatment area. Discontinue retinoids, exfoliating acids, and irritating skincare products 3-5 days prior.

Medications

Inform your provider if you are taking antibiotics or any photosensitizing. Notify us of any new medications or supplements (e.g., biotin). Avoid medications or supplements that increase light sensitivity (e.g., certain antibiotics, retinoids, or St. John’s Wort). Inform your provider of all medications prior to treatment.

Medical Conditions

Do not proceed if you have active irritation, infection, or open wounds in the treatment area. Inform your provider if you are pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or have used Accutane within the past 6 months. Inform your provider if you have any implanted medical devices (e.g., pacemaker), metal plates, silicone or injected materials in the treatment area. Disclose any immune conditions, diabetes, thyroid disorders, epilepsy, or conditions that may impair healing. A history of keloid scarring, herpes simplex, or poor wound healing should also be reported. Avoid treatment if you have had recent procedures (e.g., laser, chemical peel, or surgery) in the area within the past 2–12 weeks.

General Preparation

Stay well-hydrated and eat a light meal before your appointment. Inform your provider of any recent procedures or medical changes. A patch test may be recommended prior to treatment to assess your skin’s reaction and reduce the risk of adverse effects. Individual results may vary. By booking or proceeding with treatment, you acknowledge that outcomes are not guaranteed and depend on individual factors, as well as adherence to pre and post care instructions.

What to Expect During Your Laser Hair Removal Sessions

Before treatment, a consultation ensures we match your skin tone and hair type with the right settings for safe, effective results. During the session, the laser emits pulses of light that are absorbed by the pigment in the hair. This energy damages the follicle to inhibit future growth. Most clients describe the sensation as a light snap or mild warmth. Sessions typically take 15-60 minutes depending on the area treated, and multiple sessions are needed for full results since hair grows in cycles.

Post Care
Normal Signs

Redness, mild swelling around hair follicles, warmth (similar to a mild sunburn), and temporary sensitivity or itching are common and expected. Hair shedding may occur over the next 1–3 weeks as treated follicles release the hair. In some cases, discomfort or sensitivity may appear hours to days after treatment.

Immediate Care

Apply cool compresses if needed for comfort. Keep the area clean and avoid friction or tight clothing. Avoid touching, scratching, or exfoliating the treated area during early healing. Avoid using retinoids, exfoliating acids, or active skincare products for 3–5 days. Maintain proper hygiene to reduce the risk of irritation or infection, especially if the skin becomes sensitive.

Activity & Heat

Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 24–48 hours. Resume normal daily activities as tolerated. Avoid heat exposure that may increase irritation in the treated area.

Sun Protection

Avoid direct sun exposure immediately after treatment. Once the skin feels comfortable, apply a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen SPF 30+ daily. Avoid tanning beds and self-tanners throughout your treatment series.

Results & Treatment Plan

Hair reduction occurs gradually over multiple sessions. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple treatments are required for optimal results. Treatment intervals vary by area, and maintenance sessions may be recommended. Results vary between individuals, and complete hair removal is not guaranteed. Following the recommended treatment schedule is essential for best results.

When to Contact the Clinic
