After cleansing and topical numbing (local anesthetic for deeper work if needed), the handpiece delivers patterned pulses. Expect heat and pressure with a “prickly” sensation. Sessions take 20–40 minutes; downtime ranges ~2–7+ days depending on settings.
Moderate swelling, redness, warmth, and a sunburn-like sensation are expected. Swelling may peak within 24–72 hours. Peeling, bronzing, or flaking will occur as the skin heals. Antihistamines may be used if needed and tolerated. Pinpoint bleeding may occur immediately post-treatment and typically resolves within minutes to hours.
Do not wash the area for 12–24 hours unless advised. Avoid makeup, sunscreen, and skincare products. Use cool compresses (no direct ice) and keep your head elevated to reduce swelling. Limited activity is recommended. Avoid heat, hot showers, steam, and saunas.
Starting 24 hours after treatment: Gently cleanse with a mild cleanser. Perform diluted vinegar soaks as instructed (typically 4–6 times daily for 3–5 days). Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor after cleansing and continue 2–3 times daily for about 7 days. Avoid heat, saunas, steam, and intense exercise for 48–72 hours. Avoid alcohol for 48 hours. Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate the skin. Avoid shaving and swimming for at least 1 week.
Start a mineral sunscreen SPF 30+ after 48 hours once the skin feels comfortable. Avoid direct sun exposure and wear protective clothing. Avoid retinoids, acids, and active exfoliants for 4 weeks. Avoid aggressive treatments for 8–12 weeks. Makeup may be resumed after 48 hours if the skin barrier feels intact. Temporary hyperpigmentation (darkening) or hypopigmentation (lightening) may occur and typically resolves within 2–6 months. Rare risks include infection, scarring, or permanent discoloration. Contact your provider immediately if you experience fever, pus, severe redness, excessive swelling, worsening pain, or signs of infection.
